Due to the time all members spend completing the questionnaire, eHarmony works a little differently from other dating sites. In other dating sites the main way to find someone is by searching through profiles and contacting someone you like the look of. With eHarmony the emphasis is more on matching you up with someone who has the traits you are looking for in a person.

I’m not too keen on their method of helping you find someone. I have read that those who find love through eHarmony are more likely to stay together but it’s difficult to get to that stage. You can’t just browse profiles like normal dating sites and you can’t even view the pictures of those they match you with unless you become a premium member. Being the most expensive dating site in the UK puts a lot of people off from subscribing in the first place so at the very least they should let those who haven’t upgraded yet see how successful their matches are.

The site is a lot more professional looking than it’s free rival Plenty of Fish though it does look poor against some of the larger UK dating sites like DatingDirect and Match. However, this isn’t really a problem as it’s easy to navigate your way around the site.

Smooch also allows you to rate photos though in order to see how rated your photo you need to upgrade to do so.

Searching for members isn’t perfect though. Whilst you can narrow your search to a region, you cannot search via postcode. For example, you can search for people in Devon but you cannot filter the search down into specific towns. This means that depending on your area, you could see a lot of people in the search results who live 50 miles away from you. It doesn’t make it impossible to search for someone, it just means searching will take a little bit longer for some.

I quite liked Smooch. It’s not perfect but it offers a fantastic service for a free site. It’s currently being advertised heavily on television so it’s popularity looks set to soar.
